Why titanium
Brake fluid boils when heat travels from pads and rotors through the pistons into the fluid. Titanium conducts heat far more slowly than steel or aluminum (GiroDisc cites 6.7 W/mK for Ti 6Al-4V against 52 for steel and 130 for aluminum), so a titanium shim slows that transfer. GiroDisc positions the shields for cars that see hard or repeated track days.
