Should Brakes Break Your Bank?

Should Brakes Break Your Bank?

When it comes to choosing brakes for your German Performance Vehicle, you have many choices. We have to first think about the end goal. Whether you're looking for a basic street setup, fast road setup or even a full track setup, ORT Motorsport has you covered on all fronts. We specialize in meeting our customer's needs at any budget level.

Most everyone thinks that jumping right into a big brake kit (BBK) is the correct solution to fix their braking issue(s). Most feel that their factory brakes are inadequate and will not hold up to the task of stopping their car from a 'highway pull'. While this is partially true, there's much more to it than just adding more braking power.

In most (not all) scenarios, you will find that a giant brake kit isn't the answer. However, replacing your factory components with properly engineered direct replacements such as Tarox, will in fact increase your stopping power without killing your wallet. When we talk about brakes, it's important to understand the basic physics of braking systems and how they are engineered. Brakes are a relatively simple concept and most people understand that the pad touches the rotor and you stop. Although this is the most basic idea, it's important to understand that the pad actually grabs the rotor almost like it's pinching. An often missed concept is how damn hot brakes get in simple short stops - even coming to a stop at at traffic light.

Hard stops after a good highway run generate quite a bit of heat, so then we need to find out where the heat goes in hard stop situations. Ideally, for a car that makes solid power and is used frequently in heavy braking situations - two piece discs will help dissipate the heat faster and more efficiently. With all that in mind, choosing the correct pad + disc combination will not only give you better longevity, but also better stopping power as the correct pad will be able to withstand higher temperatures.

While there are many aftermarket brake pad + disc combinations on the market, not all are created equally. It's important to take note of things such as: coefficient of friction, temperature rating of the pad, disc material composition, etc. There are so many off the shelf 'combo packages' that look really appealing simply based on price but the quality is simply non-existent. And by that, we mean, they will stop the car - but they may not make it through a track day or a quick mountain run. Most people will throw their wallet at a big brake kit, but not realize that you can achieve similar results with a high quality replacement brake pad + disc combination from Tarox.

Tarox has been in the business of making high quality brake components for over 50 years now and their knowledge definitely shows in the quality of their products. Tarox pads + discs are a direct replacement to your factory items and will give you better fade resistance, longevity and stopping power without breaking the bank. While it sounds like a huge sales push, it's not. We live by the old adage of 'buy once cry once'. Nothing is more frustrating than doing your brakes, hitting the twisties and finding out your brakes aren't up to snuff.

Let the team at ORT Motorsport help you choose the correct replacement parts for your car.
